The OEM windshield for the Savage is now installed. (See earlier post for details about its source.) Initial impressions...

Sturdy and well-designed. Mounting requires a couple of sets of hands and inevitably leads to a few scratches on the hardware, but the upside is that it's a tight, rattle-free fit. Mounts in four places, on the bars and forks on each side.

The windshield (manufactured for the bike by National Cycle with a Suzuki logo embossed on the screen) is relatively narrow and about 15" in height. If you're under 5'5" with most of that in your legs, you may find you're looking through it. Over that height and you'll be looking over it.

Does a great job of eliminating the pressure on the chest at highway speeds. My impression is that there's a bit more wind noise than without the shield, however. Tried riding with my face shield up in traffic and found it quite acceptable. With the shield and the Tourmaster bags, it's a great commuter/weekend trip bike. Haven't ridden in the rain yet, but I suspect it will work well. (Although most of the rain hits my shins on this bike and the shield won't help that.)

As far as looks are concerned, the shield I received is tinted. (I'm not sure if a clear option is available) I would have preferred to "rake" the angle to match the angle of the forks, but couldn't quite accomplish it. Others may be more successful. As it is, the shield is about 15 degrees more vertical than the forks. All in all, it looks good, if not great.

Bottom line is that for the price ($105 mail order), it's well worth the money.
